Graduate Program Reflection: I entered the program in the spring semester of 2004. I hadn't been in an academic program in a long time but was interested in learning more about the education environment and having the experience of taking courses online. I decided to take courses one at a time so I could get the most out of them and not get overloaded with work and family and it took me a long time to matriculate but it was well worth the effort. I came into the program with a lot of technology experience but only a little experience in education so I was primarily interested in learning more about education and experiencing how they would teach technology to educators. Most of my classes had a few people like me - more technology background than teaching - but most of my classmates were teachers who were interested in learning more about using technology in their classrooms. The perspectives of others and the sharing of experiences and opinions is probably the thing I got the most out of in this program. The use of the discussion forums and some of the other communications technologies (email, instant messaging, and blogs) provided a great communication between classmates and teachers and when used best, it was very interesting. The online learning environment worked very well for me. I felt privileged to have the opportunity to learn from outstanding educators such as Mimi in Wyoming, Dr. Judi in Virginia, Steve from Las Vegas, Jeff from Wyoming, etc. and share with classmates from across the country and a few from outside the States - only online learning offers this unique situation.
