This course focuses on the integration of computers and other new
technologies into the academic curriculum. This course will help you
design curriculum that addresses important learning goals with students
while taking specific advantage of new technologies. Exercises in
curriculum planning and the development of instructional activities will
focus on making decisions about content, learning styles, classroom
management, and the use of technology in innovative ways to supplement,
enhance, and extend the curriculum. Participants will examine software
tools, curriculum software, Internet resources, and computer-based
projects as examples of technology that can be effectively integrated
into the curriculum.
This course was illuminating for me since I hadn't worked with
developing curriculum to standards before. I was surprised by how much
work went into developing a unit and it was helpful in that I then
understood why teachers are reluctant to quickly change - they've often
put a lot of effort into creating a lesson plan and assessments and
refined it over time.
One aspect of this course that was interesting to
me was that it taught using a database. The activity was very well
structured and I learned a lot by seeing how it was taught.
Linda was
the first teacher I ever had that would let you continue to submit
assignments with revisions until you had it revised to your satisfaction. It was a very
interesting experience for me and I valued it tremendously. It must have
taken a lot of her time to continue to review and comment on my
submissions but I realized that not only did the process culminate in a
much better finished product, but I actually learned a lot from the
refinement process.
